- Make sure your NetID is activated and you can log in to campus systems.
- Check your Horizon email regularly - it's where instructors and campus offices send you messages.
2 Log in to Canvas
Canvas is the official learning management system for online, hybrid, and many on-campus courses.
- Go to the Canvas login page and sign in with your NetID and password.
- Your courses appear on the dashboard once instructors publish them, usually close to the start of the term.
3 Review your syllabus and course homepage
- Read the syllabus carefully - due dates, participation expectations, grading policies.
- Explore the homepage and navigation menu to see how your instructor organized modules, assignments, and discussions.
4 Check your technology and learning environment
- Use a reliable computer and internet connection - a laptop or desktop is recommended for most coursework.
- Keep your browser updated. Use a current version of Chrome, Firefox, or Edge for Canvas.
- Set up a quiet study space and plan regular times each week to log in and work.

In Canvas you'll typically:
- View modules, pages, and readings
