Dr. Mikahl Banwarth-Kuhn receives Henry L. Alder New Teacher Award from MAA
Dr. Mikahl Banwarth-Kuhn has been awarded the 2026 Mathematical Association of America (MAA) Golden Section Henry Alder Award for Distinguished Teaching by a Mathematics Faculty. This award recognizes early-career faculty who make an outstanding impact in the classroom. Dr. Banwarth-Kuhn is known for her creative, inquiry-driven teaching, her emphasis on real-world modeling and computation, and her commitment to making mathematics both challenging and accessible to all students. This award highlights the powerful difference Dr. Banwarth-Kuhn makes in the lives of our students and in the strength of our academic community.
Dr. Andrea Arauza Rivera receives Spitzer Award.
The Rosemary and Matthew Spitzer Distinguished Science Faculty Award is given once a year to a faculty member in the college who has demonstrated excellence in teaching and research. Year after year, Dr. Arauza Rivera continues to find meaningful ways to infuse joy, community, and justice into both her teaching and research. Congrats Dr. Arauza Rivera, we appreciate you!
Tu Hoang Recognized as Outstanding Lecturer
The Outstanding Lecturer award went to Tu Hoang, who has taught in Mathematics and Statistics. A student comment sums up why, “Mr. Tu is an outstanding teacher. He's involved and cares about the learning outcomes of his students. I felt engaged and I gained valuable skills that I'll be able to retain thanks to Mr. Tu.” Tu completed his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Mathematics at CSUEB. He started his teaching journey as a graduate teaching assistant in 2018. After earning his degree in 2019, he was able to join the faculty as a lecturer. Congrats Tu, we appreciate you!
