All interested students have the opportunity to apply during the Priority Application Process or the General Application process. The Priority Application is the best option for students who want the widest selection of rooms and the ability to form a Roommate Group. During this process, students can:

  • Access the highest number of available room options
  • Create or join a Roommate Group and select rooms together
  • Participate in a structured room selection process to guarantee first choices of rooms.

During the Priority Application, the room assignment times will not be on a first-come-first-serve basis but instead randomly generated by our database, however, in an attempt to best manage the process in terms of room selection consolidation, priority may be assigned to those with larger roommate groups. Aside from the consolidation piece, all those who complete their contract during the Priority Application Process will have equal chances when it comes to room selection times regardless of when the application was submitted as long as it’s within the application timeframe.

If living with specific friends or having the most room options is important to you, the Priority Application is strongly recommended.

Communities

Living communities are designed to help residents meet other residents in their same academic standing and for the residence halls to provide educational opportunities for their specific needs. All contracts based on open availability.

FAQ

Star Icon
  • All CSUEB students are eligible to apply for the priority application, inclusive of newly admitted students, current CSUEB students, and current Housing residents.

*Current Housing residents - To take advantage of the priority application process, residents are expected to clear all Housing past due financial balances and conduct tasks. Examples can include prior term balances that are now deemed as overdue and incomplete conduct sanctions.

  • Applicants get priority for preferred accommodations over applicants who apply through the General Application process. Additionally, the Priority Process allows applicants to use the Roommate Group option. Individual room selection appointments within the Priority Process are conducted by lottery, so any applied date in the Priority period does not matter for placement. However, residents who participate in both the Priority Application and Roommate Groups will have priority in selecting rooms for their group before others.

  • Priority application contracts are only available from March 11, 2026 until April 7, 2026. Should prospective residents miss the Priority Application process, they can still contract in the General Application process. It is important to review the Application website.

  • Yes, you can request specific roommates during the roommate group process. However, all members of the group must have applied for the priority application, and must belong in the same designated community. For example, a second year student cannot request to live in or be roommates with a first year student.

  • The roommate group process allows applicants to form groups with preferred roommates. All potential roommates must have also completed the priority application. Select one leader from the group who will create a group during the application process. The other group members will request to join the group and have to be approved by the group leader. Only the leader in the group needs to select the space for the group.

  • You don’t need to worry about the roommate group process, and can apply on your own. Should you like to meet others to take part in the roommate group process together, Housing organizes Roommate Mixers and also present for tabling at select Housing community events (i.e. RHA Battle of the Buildings).

  • While priority application increases your chances of securing preferred accommodations, it does not guarantee placement into specific units or bedrooms. Availability of housing options may vary depending on factors such as demand and capacity.

  • There are virtual tours and in-person tours available via designated showrooms.

  • General application will open on April 8, 2026, and all current residents and prospective new residents are able to apply then.

  • Please refer to the University Housing websites for important dates regarding the priority application. We may also communicate application status and housing assignments through student university Horizon email or the online housing portal. Make sure to regularly check the website, your student email, and online housing portal for updates.

  • If you have specific housing accommodations or accessibility needs, it's important to communicate them as early as possible. Applicants can self-identify during the housing application and contract. Further, we advise all students to connect with the Accessibility Services Office to request for an intake appointment to discuss options that would best support their needs.
