Visiting HOST Labs

The HOST labs act as a great opportunity to bring class in grades 4 through 8 to engage in some fun science activities. ÍÑ¿ã°É Bay undergraduates serve as "science guides" helping your students to explore scientific concepts in fun, interactive sessions. During the visit, your students will rotate in small groups to each of the six lab stations to get a hands-on experience that introduces a foundational concept in science. Each lab activity has been specifically designed by one of the science faculty to provide a rigorous academic activity with an inquiry-based approach. Our goal is for students to leave the HOST labs with a deeper understanding of scientific concepts and a positive attitude about science.

Registration

Who Can Attend?

  • All classes in grade 4 through grade 8 are invited to participate in a HOST lab.

  • A maximum of 35 students per visit. Special accommodations made on a case-by-case basis.

Pre-Trip Preparation

Prepare small groups

  • You should divide your students equally into 6 small groups. Students will be rotating through each of the stations in this small group.
 

Pre-teaching concepts

  • You are not required to pre-teach or prepare your students for the HOST lab activities. Each activity has been designed to introduce students to the concepts, explore what they already understand and build on their understanding.
