ASI Elections

Welcome to the ÍÑ¿ã°É Bay ASI Elections page! The ASI Elections committee is a dedicated group of student leaders who are charged with the oversight and management of the student government elections. The committee is selected each year as part of the ASI committee application and interview process. This page serves to provide the ÍÑ¿ã°É Bay community with all details relating to ASI Elections.

Why Run for ASI?

Running for ASI is a chance to turn your ideas into action. Whether you care about campus life, student resources, equity, events, academics, or something you wish worked better, ASI gives you a real seat at the table. Depending on the position, you don’t need prior experience — just a willingness to listen, learn, and show up for your peers. Along the way, you’ll build leadership skills, make meaningful connections, and help shape the student experience for everyone. If you’ve ever thought, “I wish someone would do something about that,” this is your chance to be that someone. One uniqueness with the CSU, ASI is its own independent 501(c)(3) organization. As such, the elected government leaders are the official Board of Directors of the non-profit organization.

ASI Election FAQs

Star Icon
  • Most often, when there are 3 or more candidates running for a position, it is common that one
    candidate will receive a higher % of the votes than the others but they don’t have a simple majority;
    thus, requiring a run-off vote. With runoff elections, the two candidates who receive the highest % of
    votes in the initial election participate in the run-off.
  • Elections and most voting processes in ASI are based on a “simple majority” which means for a
    candidate to win they must receive a “simple majority” of votes (which is 50% of the votes plus one
    vote). Basically, the minimum has to equal 50% of total vote plus 1 vote. For example, if there are 10
    voters, simple majority will be equal to 6 votes (50% (5 votes) + 1 (1 vote).
  • Only currently enrolled matriculated students (who are considered to be “active members” of ASI) are
    eligible to vote. Active members of ASI are students who have paid activities fees for the current
    semester.
