How to apply (6 steps)

Most candidates complete the full application in 4 to 6 weeks. Don't wait until the last minute on subject-matter verification - that's the step most likely to add delays.

  1. Confirm your bachelor's degree. You need a completed undergraduate degree from a regionally accredited institution before you can be admitted.
  2. Verify subject-matter competence. Either pass the CSET for your chosen subject area, or complete an approved subject-matter program. Some subjects allow either path.
  3. Complete CSU ÍÑ¿ã°É. Submit the standard CSU graduate application at . Choose CSUEB and the Single Subject Credential program.
  4. Submit transcripts. Official transcripts from every college you've attended go directly to CSUEB Admissions.
  5. Provide credential documents. Including your basic skills requirement (CBEST, SAT, ACT, or coursework), Certificate of Clearance (background check), and any prior teaching credentials or permits.
  6. Interview with the program. A short Zoom interview with credential program faculty. Discusses your readiness, subject focus, and fieldwork placement.

  • Months 3-12: Coursework - foundations of teaching, methods for your subject, classroom management, equity, English-learner pedagogy.
  • Months 6-15: Fieldwork placement - student teaching at a local school in your subject area. Online Campus coordinates placement with partner districts.
